Tambayan: 100% Filipino Food

Author: SabahanCuisine  //  Category: Eateries, drink, food

Note: Non-halal eatery review.

A few of my friends have been to Manila, and became Filipino’s food lovers. They shares their passion for Filipino food with the rest of us that are yet to visit the Philippines, by bringing us to this Filipino restaurant at Api Api Centre, Kota Kinabalu.

There are a few Filipinos restaurants in Api Api Centre, but our favourite hang out spot just have to be Tambayan! Tambayan is situated just next to the Proton (or was it Perodua?) showroom at Api Api Centre.

This is the entrance that will greet you upon arrival at Tambayan restaurant.

The interior decor of the restaurant resembles a traditional Filipino house, using bamboo as for the furniture, astray and the lamps’ shades or whatever you call it.

Can you see the light at the right side of this photo?

Being a Filipino restaurant, do expect a lot of pork dishes from the menu selections. To those that doesn’t eat pork like me, fret not as there are a few Filipino traditional dishes that you can feast upon. I personally love the sisig bangus or milkfish sisig. As for the dessert, it just have to be the sweet and thick creme caramel, leche flan!

Some of the food selection you can see from the menu on the wall.

I didn’t have the photos of sisig bangus and leche flan with me at the moment, but the following are another favourite dishes of ours.

Beef Sinigang - a thick, sourish stew. Very nice! Eat while it is still hot or you’ll see the fat floating on the surface of the soup! LOL!

Another dish that my friends ordered. I couldn’t remember what it was, so it must be a pork dish! :P

My usual order for drinks. Mango juice (a must try!) and San Mig Light beer.

The ambience in Tambayan restaurant is indeed a nice place to hangout with your friends. There’s a karaoke box at the back of the restaurant where you can sing your heart out for 50 cents a song (unless they increased the price already!) and a pool table to try out your pool skills while waiting for your turn to sing..

To the owner of Tambayan restaurant, can we get a discount next time we visit your place? :D

To my readers, yes, this is a free review, a personal review from yours truly. An honest opinion.

2 of my good friends having a great time choosing the food to order from the menu. Boss of Tambayan, please take note of these faces, these are some of your loyal customers. :P

Give Tambayan a try and tell me of your opinion of the place. Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous new year 2009! Happy holidays!

A Candlelight Dinner For All in Miri

Author: SabahanCuisine  //  Category: Eateries, drink

Warning: Photos Overload Ahead!

I mentioned in my previous post that we had a candlelight dinner in Miri. Yes, that we did. Not on purpose, but it was due to the state-wide (I think) power failure, which happened on the 9th August. The telco lines were not co-operative either, so all of us were trying to call each other for several times before getting through to arrange for another place to have dinner at.

I was still full from eating so much sotong kangkung and cucur campur that I didn’t order any food for dinner. The most important thing was we got together and had fun chit-chatting :)

About an hour later, the power supply was restored. Hurraayyy! I could see the cafe’s surrounding clearly! That was when I saw the drink menu on the wall….

Being the curious me, of course I ordered the drink! LOL! I wonder if it would be served in a glass shaped like a Japanese Slipper…. and to my disappointment … nothing special about it :P Or maybe it was just me not knowing how to appreciate cocktail drinks - except for a good Margarita concocted somewhere here in KK ;)

The cocktail in question - Japanese Slipper!

The green colour as the original Japanese slippers? Probably… I couldn’t make out what was the ingredients for this cocktail, but it was very very mild - and that’s from someone who doesn’t drink alcoholic beverages much .. okay, maybe I do now, for the purpose of keeping this blog alive :D

Anyhow, Dbie ordered a Margarita and it paled in comparison to the ones we can get here in KK. Oh well, it’s kind of unfair to compare the nightlife one can get here in KK and in Miri anyway… so, I’ll just stick to my favourite sotong kangkung and cucur campur instead :P

But all in all, the place is a good for hanging out with friends; the Western food served there are not bad either. This place can be found in Taman Yakin Commercial Centre, Miri. What’s the name of the cafe?

Cafe Miri Bar & Bistro

Cafe Miri Bar & Bistro

Cafe Miri Bar & Bistro - that’s what this cafe is called. I really like the interior decor, Oz theme :) After dinner, we proceeded to someplace else that sells cheaper “drink” sets  … I ordered a bottle of drinking water while everybody ordered something non-alcoholic… Maslan and Lyn ended up drinking the ‘Top Ten’ on their own! LOL!

Another Western food joint in Miri coming up soon! :) And we love the food there, so stay tuned…
